ODs (Male and Female) Show Slight Preference for Business Attire

Nearly 600 people responded to last week’s Pop-up Poll on the office dress code. Seventy-eight percent of the respondents were women ODs, and a significant majority, 77 percent of them, said that they typically prefer to wear slacks, not skirts or dresses, to work. Overall, ODs and staff members who responded that the dress code varies, but skews more to business attire. Slightly more people (31.9 percent) said they wear business attire with no lab coat than the 31.2 percent who said they wear a lab coat. Another 30.5 percent dress more casually, in business-casual with no lab coat.

Among women ODs, business attire tops business/casual style, with 65 percent of women ODs saying their preference is business wear. That’s very similar to the responses from male ODs. Overall, 68 percent of men ODs say they wear business attire, split evenly on whether they also wear the lab coat or not. Twenty-six percent said they prefer a business/casual style with no lab coat, and 6 percent wear a lab coat over business/casual attire.
