Integrating AMD Awareness Into Your Practice

One of the best weapons in the fight against age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is prompt detection and education. Here are three tips on how your practice can catch the disease early.

Test early and consistently

Follow the same procedure for every patient who’s at risk for AMD (over the age of 50, poor diet and exercise, smoker, etc.) to avoid any second-guessing.

Educate and empower your staff on AMD

Educate your staff on the severity of AMD & empower them to properly screen for patients who may be at greater risk. Make sure they ask patients questions about symptoms and the disease’s risk factors, such as family history.

Show how nutrition and eye health are connected

Teach your patients about food and regular supplementation to promote better eye health.
