First Optometric Job Leaves Lasting Impression

Dr. Grover

Lori Grover, OD, found inspiration early on in her career from Susan Gormezano, OD. Dr. Gormezano led the first practice where Dr. Grover worked during a time when residencies in vision impairment and rehab were few and far in between. “She was a tremendous mentor and sponsor,” Dr. Grover says. “She took time to teach me and encouraged me to contribute my skills independently while augmenting them with hers. She helped to transform me into a sophisticated clinician with a comprehensive knowledge of the landscape of caring for people with chronic visual impairment.”

Dr. Gormezano also held several leadership roles within the American Optometric Association (AOA) and Michigan Optometric Association. This shepherded Dr. Grover’s own involvement in her state AOA-affiliate. Dr. Grover adds that she’s thankful for Dr. Goremzano support and promotion as a young colleague as she stepped into her own leadership positions.
