Michelle M. Cooper, OD, of Greenville, South Carolina, was elected the first woman chairman of the South Carolina Board of Examiners in Optometry. michelle cooper
The New England College of Optometry announced new members to its Board of Trustees, including three women ODs. The board is responsible for NECO’s educational mission and fiscal oversight. They include:
Linda Bennett, OD, founder of Bennett Family Eye in Belmont, Massachusetts, and former president of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists;
Katherine Coffey, OD, founder of Coffey Eye Care in Quincy, Massachusetts, and former president of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists; and
Valarie Ricciardi, OD, practitioner with and administrator of Central Massachusetts Vision Source in Worcester, Massachusetts, as well as Vision Source Regional Administrator.
Charlotte Yiyi Wang, OD, is this year’s recipient of the Hopkins Comprehensive Eye Care Award from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation. Dr. Wang is a primary care/community health resident at the Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center.
Carolyn N. Chakuroff, OD, MS, is this year’s recipient of the Alfred A. Rosenbloom, Jr., Low Vision Residency Award from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation. Dr. Chakuroff is an ocular disease/low vision rehabilitation resident at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.
