Holidays Around the Office: Harried or Hopeful? Poll Response

holiday policies in the office

As the holiday season comes to a close and it’s back to business as usual, eye care professionals report back on what the holidays looked like around their offices.

GIFTS WERE A-GIVEN

Just over half of respondents noted that everyone in their office receives some type of gift during the holiday season, most often through an office-wide gift exchange. The most commonly reported gifts were specialized presents, such as customized ornaments. Almost 40 percent (39 percent) of respondents said that gifts average a value of $50. Sixteen percent of respondents noted that they spend up to $100 on each staff member.

HOLIDAY PARTIES WERE PLANNED

40 percent of respondents noted that they held a holiday party at the office or another venue, such as a restaurant or outdoor area. One-fifth of respondents said that they take time to hold a get-together but wait until after the hustle and bustle of the new year.

Most respondents—86 percent—said that their office was closed on the Mondays following Christmas and the New Year. Some respondents also noted that their office was closed for the entire week between Christmas and the New Year, giving doctors and staff a much-deserved break.

Seventy-one percent of respondents were female ODs. Nineteen percent were non-OD females and 10 percent were male ODs. Fifty-two percent of respondents were employees and 48 percent were owners/co-owners.
